Our Commitment to the Environment

At Penned, sustainability is important to our business. We believe in respecting our planet, our people, and our community. By ensuring our practices are environmentally responsible, we contribute to a more sustainable future for everyone. We’re passionate about the environment, so we do our best to work with partners who source materials for our customers that have a minimal impact on the environment.

Penned only uses environmentally certified (FSC) and recycled papers through our supplier network.

Penned’s Sustainable Practices

We offer a variety of products such letters, greeting cards, and postcards. No matter the product, we are committed to using paper that meets the highest standards of sustainability:

• Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) Certification: All our paper products are sourced from suppliers who are FSC certified, guaranteeing that the paper originates from responsibly managed forests.
  
  
• Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC): We strive to work with suppliers who are PEFC certified, further ensuring the sustainable management of forests.
  
  
• Recycled Paper: Depending on the product and feasibility, we incorporate recycled paper to help reduce waste and promote the reuse of materials.
  
  
• Printing: Where possible we will use printers who use vegetable based inks, or inks that are environmentally friendly.

Our Approach to Sustainability

We believe in using paper responsibly, with a strong focus on reducing waste and overconsumption. Our sustainability efforts include:

• Reviewing Our Suppliers: Into 2024 and beyond we will continually review our suppliers to ensure they meet or exceed our sustainability standards, and we seek new ways to improve our environmental impact.
  
  
• Offering Alternative Choices: We are able provide our customers with alternative choices to meet their sustainability requirements, allowing them to select products that align with their environmental values.
  
  

Educating and Engaging Our Stakeholders

We continue to focus educating ourselves through engaging with our stakeholders about sustainability.

Our commitment includes:

• Continuous Education: We motivate and educate ourselves and work with stakeholders to understand how we prioritise environmental considerations.
  
  
• Transparent Information: We strive to offer clear and transparent information about our product range where possible, ensuring everyone is informed about our sustainability efforts.
  
  

Understanding FSC® and PEFC

While both FSC® and PEFC stand for responsible forest management worldwide, they are supported by different groups and have distinct features:

• FSC®: Supported by environmental and social interest groups like WWF and Greenpeace, FSC certification adheres to the same global standards.
  
  
• PEFC: Backed by the forest industry and a board of trustees, PEFC certification is more flexible, adapting to local priorities and conditions.
